Zambia offers hunting in the classical sense, vast unfenced wilderness areas which have remained much same for decades where a plethora of game animals survive in unhindered solitude.
Zambia's best hunting is to be had along the boundaries of the two major National Park systems, the Luangwa and the Kafue, where specially demarcated hunting zones known as GMA's (game management areas) are allocated to Zambian Safari Hunting Operators on a lease basis. These GMA's differ according to the perceived quality and numbers of game they hold and are classified into 3 different categories: Prime, Secondary and Depleted or Under stocked hunting blocks. Many of the best hunting areas in Zambia are situated along and between National Park boundaries which means there is a steady flow of game into and out of the protected area. Each GMA receives an annual quota of animals that they are allowed to hunt and Safari operators can sell safaris for and this is often a key indicator as to a good area or not. In the past these quotas have not always been sustainable, meaning they were set too high initially by the government wildlife authority.
The reality today, regardless of recent quota reductions, is that many of the top hunting concessions, even those classified as prime, have been overshot and will produce poor results on Lion and Leopard specifically, and also very big buffalo. This means that even though you may look at a prime concession and think it is good, you have to be very careful about your choice.
Hunting is often more chance than science, in the field you make your own luck and if the animal gods are smiling upon you, there is very little that can go wrong. However in Zambia, as with other countries that have this type of concession set up, you need to know what you are getting and NOT simply rely on the fact that the GMA you're about to hunt in is a prime or secondary.
Since 2003 I have been taking clients on safari to the best hunting concessions in Zambia with successful hunts each year. The elements of a good safari are, in my opinion, an experienced Zambian PH who knows the areas and where to get the best trophy that you're looking for. I personally do all the hunts in Zambia, so you can check my references and track record and speak directly to the person who you'll be hunting with - that's my promise!

Zambia's best deal for Sitatunga in 2010
We can't make a difference to high government fees so we have added MORE VALUE to our Sitatunga hunts for 2010 - bad economy means you get more!
For 2010 I have located a new sector of the Bangweulu swamps which has been un hunted for a number of years and our plan is to open up this area with our Sitatunga Expeditions.
In line with our philosophy on the true way to hunt this elusive antelope, we structure this 'expedition style' safari over 14 days with very little extra costs to you - However this is a rough trip with nights out on the open plains and in the swamps after big bulls and days spent scouting new areas and building blinds and muschanes, eating from the fire and helping out. We drive you in and out so no expensive charter fees. Price for a 14 day trip is:
1x1 Sitatunga Safari = $14,800
2x1 Sitatunga Safari = 11,800
Dates: from August thru October 2010
